Alcohol TreatmentTherefore fitness, nutrition, yoga, massage and many other program elements allow patients to heal on many different levels. The Betty Ford Center provides comprehensive treatment and services for alcohol treatment. Patients of all ages are introduced to the bio, psycho, social, spiritual alcohol treatment program. We take a holistic approach to each individual's treatment. There is a strong genetic component in alcoholism. If one parent is alcoholic, children are four times more likely than average to develop alcoholism. If both parents are alcoholic, children are eight times more likely than average to develop alcoholism. Therefore, if children can learn about the disease of alcoholism at an early age, they can know how to take care of themselves so that they have a better chance of not becoming alcoholic themselves. Alcoholism affects every member of the family. The inclusion of family members and children in the treatment process is essential to ensuring long-term sobriety. Therefore, if the family system can be altered in any way to interrupt the disease process, the patient in alcohol treatment is more likely to have a positive outcome. Alcoholism affects the limbic system of the midbrain. Since we cannot perform brain surgery in order to treat the disease, we instead focus on an alcohol treatment program of action and connection that will ultimately lead to changes in brain chemistry which will lead to a useful and balanced life for the sober alcoholic.
